Who is the Federation House Commitment for?
The Federation House Commitment is for any company in the Food & Drink Industry that wants to improve its environmental sustainability by reducing water waste.
Why only food and drink companies?
The Federation House Commitment was initiated by the Food and Drink Federation and Envirowise in response to Defra’s Food Industry Sustainability Strategy. Water usage reduction is an important issue for all industries. If you are a trade association or company from a different sector and are interested in a similar commitment, please contact Envirowise.
How is the 20% reduction measured?
The Federation House Commitment measures its “20 by 20” water usage reduction against a 2007 baseline. Envirowise will measure and report on annual water use (excluding water that goes into the end product) to show progress towards FISS targets, and will take production levels into consideration, so as to accurately reflect improved water efficiency even in the event of growing operations. Member companies will provide data on their water usage to Envirowise, which will aggregate and report on collective progress annually.
Why is Envirowise administering the scheme?
With its water efficiency expertise, and experience of working with food and drink companies, Envirowise will play a central role in helping signatory companies by providing expert advice on implementation measures. Envirowise will also act as an independent administrator of the commitment.
